French-Uruguayan photographer Bettina Pittaluga first started photographing at the age of just 14, when she was given an old analogue camera by her uncle. She quickly learned how to develop her own photographs at a local darkroom. Later, at university, she studied sociology, before working a stint as a reporter.
Her keen sense of social justice and the importance of minority representation are evident in her photographic practice. Above all, Pittaluga values authenticity, seeking to capture emotion and existing reality truthfully.
Bettina Pittaluga is taking over @paperjournalmag from today until the 22nd of February. You can follow her and see more work @bettinapittaluga.
