Born in 1989, living in Amsterdam, David Van Der Leeuw worked as a musician until spring 2020, when he decided to dedicate himself to street photography. An autodidact with a preference for analogue equipment, he’s developed a practice that resembles that of mid-century photographers of New York. The world he captures is one of long winters shadows, hand-painted shop windows, ashtrays on cafe tables, and anonymous citizens making their way through the city.
David Van Der Leeuw is taking over @paperjournalmag from today until 21 June. You can follow him @davidvanderleeuw and see more of his work at www.davidvdleeuw.com.
