Liza Kanaeva-Hunsicker was born and raised in post-Soviet Moscow, Russia. Throughout her formative years, her sole preoccupation was skateboarding in the streets. An experience that she says brings ‘rawness and freedom’ to her work. She now lives in New York City, shooting portraits and fashion work, bringing her former style of photography to her new subjects, presenting them as ‘free, natural, and raw’.
“That’s where I find beauty – a natural state, an honest story. I think true beauty is complex and diverse and is only seen with open and meditative mind. With my work, I hope to incite that open mind, love and curiosity.”
Kanaeva-Hunsicker has been published in Vogue Italia, L’Officiel, the British Journal of Photography, The Guardian, and more, and she has worked with Farfetch, Mathias Sinclair, and Hypebae. Her work was selected as part of the 2018 Photo Vogue Festival in Milan.
