A masculine presence makes itself known throughout the work of Asaf Einy – bulky torsos, tight briefs, arms draped unconsciously over shoulders and gesturing in impassioned conversation – he captures the companionship and casual intimacy of his subjects. Others turn away from the camera, the anonymity that Einy affords these strangers allows his pictures to speak generally of what it means to be a man amongst men.
Einy started his practice in the fashion industry when he was aged just 21. Shortly after, he found his inquisitive pictures featured in numerous publications. In 2018 he self-published his first monograph, 10pm Sunset, documenting his summer holiday in southern Italy and the island of Sicily where his camera takes in the homosocial spaces of the beach and the market.
Asaf Einy is taking over @paperjournalmag from today until the 27th of January. You can follow him @asafeiny and see more of his work at www.asafeiny.com.
