Jonas Van der Haegen – LOVE FUCK PRAY

LOVE FUCK PRAY was made between 2018 – 2019 in collaboration with the LGBTQIAP+ center in Tokyo and Osaka, Japan. This body of work functions as a visual investigation into queer sexuality and the male body in a culture that is known for sexualising mostly the female body.

The portraits dance between masculinity and femininity. They reflect – together with texts of Yukio Mishima – on the rich history of BDSM in Japan and give it a contemporary face.

Jonas Van der Haegen (born 1996, Ghent) is a queer artist who graduated from the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Ghent, Belgium. His work functions as a visual research in the artist’s personal life and interests, like sexuality, identity and personal relationships. The work questions how we approach gender and sexuality in the 21st century in the frame of freedom or under the influence of the internet.
