Middlesex University Presents: Masculinities
Purposely named in the plural sense of the word to expose all of the term’s possibilities, Middlesex University’s Fashion Styling and Communications department seek to unpick and redefine masculinity by exploring a plethora of avenues through art. In this, norms of gender are heavily questioned, to try and make sense of what being masculine means at the dawn of the new decade.
Curated by FCS Senior Lecturer Lucy Fine, alumni and staff have partaken in the creation of this exhibit, as well as contributions from influential members of the creative industry such as Martine Rose, Maddy Temple, Cherry Au, Dick Jewell and many others. An accompanying catalogue designed by FCS lecturer Helen Delany and an essay written by Fashion Visual Cultures lecturer Rebecca Bell complement this explorative ensemble of visual representations of the male gender.
Masculinities runs from the 31st of January to the 2nd of February 2020 at the Archive Gallery, The Rose Lipman Building, 43 De Beauvoir Road, N1 5SQ.
