15 Questions With… Lisbet Nielsen

How are you at the moment?

At the moment I feel rather hopeful. Hope is essential especially in these times.

What is your morning ritual? How does your day begin?

I prefer to begin my day in a quiet mode, reading and reflecting and finding inspiration from just looking around.

What, right now, can you see?

Right now I can see sunshine behind white and dark grey clouds.

What artist, project, book would you recommend we see/follow?

Wolfgang Tillmans, just one of many great photographers. Looking back I find Julia Margaret Cameron’s work very beautiful.

Tell us about your process when starting a new project.

A new project often emerge intuitively from pictures in my mind. Thereafter ideas take form as work progress.

What has been your favourite collaboration?

I have collaborated with several inspiring people. My collaboration around the Siggie book with Stinus from Disko Bay and Jacob from Spine Studio has been really great. Also my collaboration with the writer Malene Engelund has been very inspiring.

What is your greatest achievement?

My greatest achievement is that I feel happy about my life in general and that I can see new possibilities for working with my artistic projects.

What is your greatest regrets?

In the larger scheme of things I don’t really regret anything.

What advise would you give to your younger self?

I would advice my younger self to be even more courageous.

What is your latest project about?

My book Siggie is about a shared space, time passing, and metamorphosis.

What are you researching at the moment?

At the moment I am working with more abstract photographs. I am exploring contact sheets and discovering pictures that I have overlooked. This process allows me to refresh my approach to picture making.

What can you not work without?

It is important to work through inspiration and love.

What challenges have you faced working in your industry?

I have often worked very independently and it requires self discipline and courage to establish contacts.

What are you hoping for in 2021?

I hope for the world to focus on supporting a healthy planet. Personally I hope for inspiration and artistic possibilities.

Share a song with us, what are you listening to at the moment?

Recently I have been listening to David Bowie and various Joni Mitchell songs. I do also like to explore new music, but I often forget the titles.
