Unapologetic honesty and uninhibited intimacy define the portraiture of Clifford Prince King, a photographer and visual artist, living and working in Los Angeles, California. He talks of how his photographs often draw on experiences as a queer Black man, from specific events to dreams and desires.
King proudly, never formally studied art, instead he attributes his style to a lifetime spent watching TV and movies, and slowly absorbing how the camera can be used to, ‘elevate feelings and emotions’. But his photographs of lovers embracing in fields and relaxing in bed cut against the grain of popular, stereotypical depictions of young, Black men.
